The Client
A premium cosmetics manufacturer faced a limit common to much of the sector: the moment the customer buys the product and the moment they use it, day after day, remain almost always invisible to the brand. The point of sale, physical or online, generates a sales data point; daily use of the product — the thing that truly builds loyalty — generates nothing.
The Challenge
In the beauty products sector, the relationship with the end customer is traditionally entrusted to indirect channels: social media, newsletters, loyalty programmes that require active sign-up and are often abandoned after first use. The packaging itself, which the customer holds in their hands every day, remains a mute channel: it communicates only what was printed at the time of production, with no possibility of updating or interaction.
The Wintag Solution
Wintag integrated an NFC tag into the product's cosmetic packaging, designed to be read repeatedly over time — not only at first purchase, but at every use, if the customer wishes. By tapping the smartphone on the packaging, the customer accesses:
- Dedicated content, updatable over time without having to reprint anything on the physical packaging
- Personalised offers and discounts, tied to the moment of use and not just the moment of purchase
- A data collection channel on behaviour and preferences, useful for the brand to build more targeted marketing campaigns
The tag was designed to withstand the typical conditions of a home bathroom — humidity, contact with water, temperature variations — maintaining full functionality for the entire useful life of the product.
The Results
The moment of daily use, traditionally invisible to the brand, has become an active, repeatable touchpoint. Every scan represents an engagement opportunity that requires no complex action from the user — no app to download, no mandatory registration — drastically lowering the entry barrier compared to traditional digital channels. The data collected over time also allows for a more precise understanding of real usage habits, useful both for marketing and for product development.
Why Wintag
Cosmetic packaging is a hostile environment for electronics: constant humidity, contact with creams and liquid products, curved or non-standard surfaces. Designing the tag requires specific encapsulation expertise that goes beyond simply applying a catalogue component. Wintag's experience in technical plastics processing makes it possible to design solutions resistant to these conditions, while keeping costs compatible with the scale typical of cosmetics production.
