The Client
An artisanal maker of high-end brushes and grooming accessories creates objects built to last a lifetime: fine materials, hand craftsmanship, a price that reflects a long-term investment rather than a consumable purchase. But this very longevity hides a limit: once it leaves the point of sale, an object like this almost always stops communicating with the brand that created it.
The Challenge
High-end handmade objects have, by their very nature, no integrated digital channel: they don't connect, don't update, don't generate data. Whoever owns one rarely comes back into direct contact with the maker after purchase, except in the case of a fault or a return. At the same time, the high value of the piece exposes the market to a growing risk of imitations lacking the same build quality, difficult for a non-expert buyer to distinguish — especially in the case of gifts or second-hand purchases.
The Wintag Solution
Wintag integrated an NFC tag into the finished product's body, designed to withstand the same everyday use conditions as the object — humidity, repeated contact, minor knocks — without altering its aesthetics or ergonomics. By tapping their smartphone, the customer accesses two levels of content:
- Authenticity certificate: confirmation that the piece is original, with reference to production and manufacturing data — concrete protection against imitations lacking the same build quality.
- Direct relationship: brand-dedicated content, product care guidance over time, and a continuous contact channel that doesn't depend on the moment of purchase.
Unlike packaging or a paper label, the tag remains an integral part of the object for its entire useful life, even years after the first purchase — including in the case of a second owner, for example following a gift or a change of hands.
The Results
The brand gained, for the first time, a direct communication channel with the product's owner, independent of the point of sale and the moment of purchase. Every interaction with the tag is also an opportunity to reinforce the perception of authenticity and care, elements central to the positioning of a high-end handmade product built to last over time.
Why Wintag
Integrating an NFC tag into a handmade brush or grooming accessory made from natural materials and manual craftsmanship requires a different approach than a standardised industrial product: each piece can have slight dimensional and material variations that a "catalogue" tag cannot handle. Custom design, starting from Wintag's decades of experience in technical plastics processing, allows the right encapsulation and placement solution to be found for each individual product type, without compromising the aesthetics or the perception of craftsmanship that is the brand's true value.
